Recommended Pubs

Although there are hundreds of bars and pubs situated in and around Westport – from charming rural bars to late night clubs and discos – there seems to be only one bar that cannot be missed. The one and only Matt Molloy’s captures every heart that is lured there by the intimate traditional music which tickles your ears as you pass by. Established in 1896 Matt Molloy’s has an unbeatable Traditional Irish Atmosphere and the best of Irish Traditional Music with flutes, tin whistles, accordions, fiddles, guitars, mandolins and bodhrans being played seven nights a week. Matt Molloy himself can be seen joining in on the craic and may even play along, when not on tour with the Chieftans. Upcoming gigs and general information can be found on their website.

Recommended Activities

Westport is a hub of outdoor festivals and activities. From Gaelforce West, one of the largest competitions of its kind, to the ‘Westport Get Out There’ festival, there is simply an unmissable energy in the area. Situated in the heart of the breathtaking west coast of ireland, all you have to do is step outside the door and you have entered a world full of activities, and beautiful locations in which to do them. Why not rent a bike from Clew Bay Bike Hire, which is situated less than two hundred yards from St Anthony’s, and cycle the Great Western Greenway to Mulranny and Achill Island, or the new cycle lane to Croagh Patrick? Or contact ‘soairse na mara’ to arrange an afternoon of sea kayaking through the drumlin islands of Clew Bay? There is an endless list of activities to do in Westport, so here are a few links to some of our favourites:
